Happy New Year to all St. Edward Jaguar families!

I sincerely hope you have been enjoying a healthy and relaxing Christmas break. I want to thank all of the students and families for participating in our Children’s Christmas Eve Mass. Our church was beautiful and the kids did a great job! The Mass was awesome.

I want to express my gratitude to Dr. Weiss, our Superintendent, and her staff at the Office of Catholic Schools for the guidance we receive throughout the current COVID issues. Please keep them in your prayers. They are dedicated in keeping everyone safe and healthy, and at the same time, working to keep our schools operating in a normal fashion.

I want to welcome everyone back to school for 2nd semester. We will open on time with a teacher in-service on Tuesday January 4 followed by the first full day of school on Wednesday January 5. Bus service will be available before and after school.

I have two important reminders:

1. The biggest defense we have against closing/quarantining our school is our parents. We have had terrific results with you leading the way in keeping a watchful eye on your children if health issues arise. I am asking you to continue that practice. Communicate with us. Keep your child home and get them tested if they display a runny nose, fever, cough, headache or any health related issues you feel is abnormal for them. Do not medicate them in the morning and send them to school, especially if they have a fever. They must be fever free for 24 hours unmedicated to be able to return. If they are sick with any of these symptoms for more than two days, please get them tested and call the office for information before returning.

We have enjoyed a very healthy school building with no cases of contamination. Great job and keep it up. I am very impressed with your dedication in keeping all of our students and adults safe.

I will send the latest CDC and Peoria Health Department regulations and recommendations for you next week.

2. Weather: Now that we are in the winter mix I would like to remind everyone of several key points as we begin school next week:

a. If you are a car rider, please leave earlier to get to school on time. Travel times are longer. The kids need to start on time as tardies do have a negative impact on their progress and learning.

b. Please make sure the proper clothing is worn when leaving home. Coats, hats, gloves and boots. Send a pair of shoes with your child if they wear boots to school. I do not want them wearing boots through the day as they may slip, especially on the stairs.

c. If the weather warrants the closing of school (snow day), I will send out an Option C voice message as soon as a decision is made. I will also post the closing on the local TV stations, channel 25, 19, and WMBD. The calls may come at different times which includes late starting times or early releases. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me.

Take care, be careful and GO JAGUARS!
