Good evening to all St. Edward Jaguar families,
As we stated earlier today, the Diocese has continued to discuss the facial mask mandate in schools. After consultation today, the decision was made to have masks optional in all Diocesan school buildings starting on February 8, 2022. This will be a time of transition for all of us at St. Edward. We understand that the challenges to the Covid-19 pandemic are not completely over but this allows us to continue moving toward normalcy for our children.
Throughout this pandemic we have witnessed the strength of our St. Edward parents and grandparents. This will be a time where all of us need to emphasize that strength with the different choices parents make for their students to wear or not wear masks in different settings. We will not be monitoring the wearing of masks of students whose parents would like them worn. It will be the responsibility of the parent to discuss this family decision at home and monitor that cooperation as a family. We have all learned that people have adjusted to the pandemic at a different pace. We will discuss with all students the importance of respecting the individual freedom of each child and family to make the decision on whether or not to wear a mask. We have families in our school community that have high risk family members that have a heightened concern about contracting the virus. It will be important to respect individual choice at home, in the community and at school.
Obviously some of the protocols of quarantines and close contacts will be an ongoing development. We will continue to communicate information as we receive it. Our goal has always been, and will continue to be, to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students. We have learned in this pandemic that sick persons best serve our St. Edward family by remaining home. We will continue our normal protocols of contacting parents to pick up any symptomatic children. This will best serve all as we try to stop the spread of any illness.
At this time we are so thankful for the support of our parents, grandparents, students, teachers and staff members that have helped navigate through the COVID era. While we know this is not the end of the effects of the coronavirus, we realize this represents a move towards normalcy. We love our students at St. Edward and treasure the opportunity to teach and form all generations of Jaguars. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with questions, comments or concerns. We are dedicated in serving all of our students and families.
Take care and God bless all of our St. Edward Jaguar families,
