St. Edward Lunchroom Volunteers
I am sending this out to better explain how our lunchroom volunteer program works. Through the first month of school, it has either been FEAST or FAMINE! Some days we’ve had 6+ helpers (too many) and other days we've had 1 helper (too few). I am hoping this message will explain how our process will work as we move forward. We are looking to stabilize this process.
Ideally, we would like to have 3 parent volunteers at each lunch. At the beginning of the year, we reached out to parents who marked “lunchroom help” on their volunteer sheets, and they committed to work lunch a certain day, every week. These individuals will be known as our regulars.
This is what we have so far:
Monday: Need 2, and would like 1 more.
Tuesday: Rob Crothers, Rachel McAllister, and would like 1 more.
Wednesday: Steph Anderson, Sara Goebel, and Vanessa Gehrig
Thursday: Donna Bayler, Need 1, and would like 1 more.
Friday: Katey Eberle, Michelle Skalet, and Joel Skalet
These are all our regulars. As you can see, we would love to have 3 regulars at each lunch. If you can become a regular, please contact Mrs. Delaney so she can put you on the list. Every day, Vanessa Gehrig (our preschool aide) will be at lunch to help with the PreK children. This is her main responsibility during this time. Any other parent can help with PreK lunch, but Vanessa will only be working with the PreK students and taking them to the restroom before they go out to recess with me. Vanessa will be done working at noon every day but will stay and work the second lunch on Wednesday as a (regular) volunteer.
We also have a lunchroom sub-list that we use to call in subs when a regular cannot attend. If you are not on that list yet and would like to be placed on the list, please reach out to Mrs. Delaney at 309-274-2994, or at dlawson@sainted.org. Even if you can only possibly sub let’s say a Tuesday, tell Mrs. Delaney you can sub, but only Tuesdays. Having this list allows us to contact those that we know are willing and able to help with the lunchroom.
Our request for any regular, if you know you will miss one of your regular days, please give us advance notice so we can find a sub. We are aware that things come up at the last minute, so we will make that work if the situation arises. Just call the office at 309-274-2994 as soon as you can.
If you are not a regular, but you have a day off and you want to come up and help with lunch, we need you to call Mrs. Delaney that morning to see if we need help that day. We will try to work you in, but be prepared that we may say no if we already have enough help. Some of our regulars take time off their day jobs to volunteer, so we want to make sure everyone’s time is being used wisely.
